– Mon, Oct 17, 2022 at 08:20:12 AM
Hi folks,
This is just a quick check-in to highlight an extra spooky Kickstarter for the Halloween season.
Underground Oracle Publishing just launched Under the Harvest Moons, a 50-page supplement packed with archetypes, creatures, creepy rules options, cursed magic items, and a plethora of original lore for both players and game masters.
In addition to fully remastered versions of award-winning Patreon content, this book includes never-before-released materials and items, like the Terroborn lineage and its four different nightmare ancestries.
Under the Harvest Moons includes:
Haunted world options like new festivals, cults, guilds, and rules.
Eerie new player options including a new lineage, archetypes, and spells.
Terrifying monsters and stand-alone creature features to up the ante of your horror encounters.
Under the Harvest Moons will be available as a digital PDF or as a premium softcover book and every tier from the PDF level up will also include the Shard Tabletop and Roll20 versions of Under the Harvest Moons at no additional charge!
This spooky project funded in just 30 minutes! But there's still time to get in on those early bird deals, including big discounts and a set of creepy digital map packs.
🌭Happy Halloweenie 🎃

Hey folks,
The skies are grey and the leaves are turning yellow, which can only mean one thing. It’s time for Halloweenie, the one night of the year when ghosts and goblins can dress like slutty hot dogs and no one can say anything about it out. So, let’s fire up the grill, grab a pack of frankenfurters, and get down to some good old-fashioned spookery.
OC Art Update
Little Guy Alert 🚨
Spooky Stuff
OC Art Update
Carlos (@CSPstuff) continues to absolutely MURDER the backer OC art with this group of street food-lovin’ cuties. This has got to be one of my favorite pieces of art in the whole book. Nothing has captured the essence of Fat Magic quite like shark man, regular guy, coffee barbarian, cinnabun elf, buff androgynous warlock, and pumpkin dog.
Little Guy Alert 🚨
After the sheer horror that was Melraiser, Kinley (@Kinley_R_Art) is back to doing what they do best: adorable little guys. Here’s a WIP taste of some of the MOST POWERFUL little guys in all of Fat Magic. And for all your little guy needs, check out Kinley’s Twitter, where they’re drawing spooky frog stuff every day for the month of October (Frogtober?).
Spooky Stuff
The spooky season is the perfect time to revisit our slate of fall content.
For that cozy pumpkin spiced vibe, try the Rind of the Spiced Vangourd on for size. This aromatic pumpkin plate was made in collaboration with Abyssal Brews (@abyssalbrews), my favorite magic item creator on Twitter. If you’re hungering for more magic items, I recommend checking out their Patreon, which is stacked with more than 50 fully-illustrated creative delights (patreon.com/abyssalbrews).
For the horror lovers, nasty little gremlins, and spooky heck boys, may I suggest the milk-curdling one-shot, Night of the Living Bread. NotLB is a classic zombie survival adventure, written by game designer El Haney, with a mother dough of a twist.
“When the wind turns and the leaves change, the Harvest Festival comes to the isolated village of Devil’s Egg. The annual celebration is the last chance for the townspeople to eat, drink, and be merry before snow blankets the fields and the cold turns deadly. This year’s festivities are disrupted when a culinary enchantment goes horribly a-rye and spawns a horde of ravenous bread zombies. Your party will face down the living bread and try to guide a ragtag team of survivors to escape Devil’s Egg.”
And that’s it for this month folks. The November update is going to be one for the books. I’m currently working with TitanomachyRPG on the MASSIVE Pact of the Celebrity Chef subclass. This chonky lad is going to be a customizable monster, with a three-in-one patron and a charcuterie board of optional features. I hope you're hungry.
All the best,
Shane
Melraiser, Beefy Shark & Production Updates

Hey folks,
It's our first official fall update of 2022, so grab the pumpkin-spiced beverage of your choice, put up your leaf-stompers, and settle in for some cozy updates.
Backer OC Sampler Platter
The first treat tumbling out of the Update Goblin’s news sack is a sneak peek at the next round of backer OCs. I’ve got five spicy new character designs by the wonderful Carlos Sánchez Polo (@CSPstuff).
I’ve headcanoned the next adventuring party as having gone to high school together. Their lives pulled them down diverging paths but, in the end, they found their way back to each other. Now they travel the land, sampling the street foods of the world and bonking bad guys on the noggin.
Rise of the Melon Knight
This month we playtested a devilish new encounter for the book, the Melon Knight and his flunkies. The Melon Knight is a beefy melon demon with an array of unique abilities. When your players face him, he will be backed up by the balletic Onion Knight and the hulking Tomato Knight. Here’s the big guy in all his glory, illustrated by the deviant Kinley Raftery (@Kinley_R_Art).
The melon knight encounter is a layered encounter with multiple stages. It needed a little tweaking after playtesting (due to the party absolutely shredding my veg), but now it's a finely tuned machine with some adorable veggie minions.
We will be releasing the Melon Knight as a standalone encounter later this month, so keep your eyes on our Twitter.
Production Updates
Speaking of free content, our release calendar looks stuffed in the near term.
We’ve got two fantastic oneshots in the works, written by Kiersten Bell (@clericalcleric) and Daniel “Drakoniques” Oleh (@drakoniques).
Fat Magic Graphic Designer Amber Seger (@rocketorca) is working on a custom character sheet for your chaotic little culinary goblins.
And Lex Kim Bobrow and I have started work on the most anticipated FM subclass, the Pact of the Celebrity Chef Warlock. This is a beefy subclass with lots of moving parts, as befits a dynamic culinary caster with exacting standards.
Finally, I’ve got a quick update on the production of the book itself.
We’re about 75% done with the writing. Things are taking a little longer than initially projected, due to the post-Kickstarter expansion of content and a few hiccups in the playtesting schedule. (It turns out getting people to play D&D every week comes with its own challenges. Whoda thunk it?)
I know folks are eager to get their hands on the book, but we’ll be shipping the book in Q1 of 2023 and the end result will be a more polished and entertaining experience for your table. And let me tell you, those bad food puns are going to really sing.
In the meantime, we’ll keep churning out the free content, and I’ll keep you in the loop with these monthly updates.
All the Best,
SC
Get Jjigae With It

Hey, folks!
Right now, I’m in a cabin in the woods and supposed to be unplugging from the internet and stuff so I’m going to keep this short and sweet. I have some killer stuff to drop and then I’m going to bounce and look at a tree.
OC Art - Grill Buds
Creature Art - Spawn of Frogdog
One-Shot - Get Jjigae With It by Lex Kim Bobrow
OC Art - Grill Buds
Carlos (@CSPStuff) just completed the next batch of OCs having a ghost pepper scorpion grill sesh and they are a beautiful family of misfits and weirdos. If you missed the boat on the OCs, Carlos’s commissions are open to lovingly illustrate your Fat Magic PC for your home game.
Spawn of Frogdog
From the desk of visionary Fat Magic artist Kinley Raftery (@Kinley_R_Art) is an illustration that really tests the boundaries of the food creature concept. This educational diagram shows the early life cycle of the frog dog, a creature that will play a pivotal role in the story of Fat Magic.
One-Shot - Get Jjigae With It by Lex Kim Bobrow
Finally, I’m delighted to release the all-new Fat Magic one-shot from superstar game designer Lex Kim Bobrow (@titanomachyRPG). Get Jjigae With It is a chill downtime adventure, complete with minigames, magic hijinks, and romanceable NPCs. There’s no Big Bad Evil Greg, no impeding to do. Just a beautiful night in a candlelit canyon.
Honestly, I can’t wait to play this myself. It’s more versatile and feature-heavy than our usual one-shots and has the potential to be a setting-neutral downtime adventure with a foodie flair.
That’s it from us this month. I’m going to go see what all this nature stuff is about. We’ll be back at the beginning of September with more updates and goodies.
Cheers,
SC
Hunting Truffles with New Ranger Subclass
over 2 years ago
– Sun, Jul 03, 2022 at 12:16:12 PM
Hey folks,
The update goblins are dragging a hefty sack this month! We’ve got a new subclass, OC designs, and long-awaited production art, so let’s crack her open.
Truffle Hunter Ranger
OC Adventuring Party 2
Critical Alliance Pin
Coming Soon
Truffle Hunter Ranger
As we near the end of the backer-funded subclasses, we’ve gotten a little bolder in our design choices. The Truffle Hunter Ranger continues that theme by bucking convention, throwing fungus to the wind, and incorporating design elements from other games.
As always, the mechanics were designed by Fat Magic subclass designer Lex Kim Bobrow (@titanomachyrpg) and illustrator Carlos Sánchez Polo (@CSPStuff). We tried to curate a patient and quiet vibe for this subclass and I think there’s fertile ground here to build a compelling character. Check them out and let us know what you think!
The second OC adventuring party is in the works and I’ve got some early designs to show off. Definitely getting a distinctly “goth kids and misfits” vibe from this party.
Critical Alliance Pin
After much deliberation, we’ve locked down the final design for the Critical Alliance Pin, (available on your backerkit as a pre-order or addon to your pledge).
The Critical Alliance is a shadowy network of culinary scholars, heavily involved with the development and control of culinary magic in the Bouillabaisse. Membership opens all kinds of doors but there’s always a price to pay for power.
This gorgeous design is courtesy of our graphic designer Amber Seger (@rocketorca), who just launched a new TTRPG website with a group of wonderful creators.
Cloud Curio is host to treasures wondrous and strange, enough to dazzle the eye and stagger the imagination. Contained within are all manner of tabletop roleplaying game supplements: items, monsters, weapons, spells, plot hooks, adventures, and more.
Everything in the Curio is designed to be system neutral and easily adaptable to any game, but with a special eye toward D&D 5th Edition. They’ve already got some free items up on their website but there’s lots more in store for curious GMs and players.
Coming Soon
Coming soon to an update email near you: the official Fat Magic Character Sheet, the next batch of OC designs, and a beautiful one shot that has been finalized but not designed. For more frequent updates and inappropriate food memes, follow our Twitter @fatmagicrpg.
